A motor function framework for physical training asserts an inherent capacity for change. It also gives us a working template of how the body actually generates movement. When we access our nervous system and engage consciously with movement retraining, we can go beyond what we thought possible. We can also pull back where we are forcing motion and range and stop hurting ourselves.

Movement is our first language. So much of life is played out through the conscious and unconscious movements of our bodies. By design, we are embodied creatures perceiving reality through our senses. Our hunger, pain, ease and emotional cues are made clear to us through a clear interoceptive sense. We feel what is “out there” and “in here” through our body’s ability to move and sense clearly. Why not learn more and be in friendly relationship with our bodies as our vessels for life? Why not develop movement practices to create trust, resilience and knowledge of our bodies? And why not make sure our practices help to deepen, heal and fortify our health and understanding of how we move? In a way, we can be more present in reality and in our own lives when we strengthen the clarity of our connection to our own bodies.

Movement Philosophy

About ana

I’m Ana, a lifelong dancer, dedicated movement teacher and motor function specialist. I'm also a mom, gardener and Trekkie. I performed professionally in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 2000s and I have been a professional movement educator since 2005.

Over the past two decades I have developed keen observational skills for movement, pursued deep theoretical knowledge of biomechanics and kinesiology, and learned from my many thousands of hours in session with all types of human bodies.

Sensual Movement

Sensual movement is a dance form that is accessible to  ALL people, at ANY age and ANY fitness level because it comes from within. It is an incredibly effective tool for reconnecting to your body, sensuality, power and purpose. “Sexy” is the by-product of coming home to a body that we accept and care for without condition or comparison. Confidence is natural in this state, and movement is perhaps our best portal. Since our bodies tell our greatest truths – if we can learn to listen, accept  and trust, this movement can lead us into deeper levels of acceptance and more joy.

Sensual movement classes emphasize a reclaiming of safety in our bodies in a group setting. No small task. A safe, informed, inclusive environment is probably the most important aspect of these classes.

Testimonials

As a longtime dancer and teacher of movement, I am very particular about who I choose to work with when it comes to my body. From our first session, I could instantly sense that Ana was not only well-informed and highly experienced, but that she also holds a deeply intuitive knowing. Ana brings curiosity, presence, joy, and creative thinking to each session. She has helped shine a light on my blind spots and patterns, and together we have been rewriting my body story. Since working with her my movement feels more intelligent, enjoyable, supported, and I am experiencing significantly less pain and headaches. I can't recommend working with her enough!

I have also had the pleasure of taking sensual movement classes from Ana. I have enjoyed exploring the structured yet open-ended movement pathways that she offered. As I attended more of her classes, I started to notice that I was able to give myself more and more permission to be just who and how I am, and I realized that this practice, over time, would start to spill into my life outside of the studio. Ana's classes are a special place to witness yourself and others touch into deep inner places. This is made possible because Ana provides a well-held, safe container in which to play, explore, and discover a profound intimacy with oneself and others. It's all set to great music, led by her intentionally chosen clear and unique descriptions. More than a class, it's an experience to be had, and for many, a portal into a deeper, more authentic way of moving and being.

We are so lucky to have Ana, and all that she offers, here in our little corner of the world! I am so grateful for her!

Director and teacher at MOVE studio, Durango, CO

Ana Hyatt is a remarkable teacher. Her ability to perceive the nuance of what is going on in the body is uncanny. In the face of a personal history of intense bodywork, athletics, injury, surgery, and work with many body workers, Ana has taught me about parts of my body that have been overlooked and under developed. Both in person and via Zoom, Ana has taught me about how to be in, move, adjust, and develop my body awareness strength, and movement in ways that have been transformative.  I could not recommend her more highly.

I’ve worked with Ana for years. To me she is a miracle worker. She understands the body and the mind so well.  She can work with your body to strengthen and heal it and then teach you how to do it so you can maintain it yourself!

I first went to Ana when I was 70 because my hip hurt and my doctor had told me, “your hip has only so many more walks left in it”. I love to walk and hike so this was very upsetting. After working with Ana I went on to walk 10 miles a day for 10 days on the Camino in Spain! That was over 9 years ago and I am still going strong thanks to Ana.
